About
The Princess Theatre has been a feature of Queensland’s entertainment landscape since its construction in 1888. Installing a modern building management system in a building of this age presents both technical and preservation challenges: new cabling and equipment must be integrated carefully to avoid disturbing heritage fabric, while the BMS itself must be reliable enough to protect the venue’s valuable plant from undetected faults.
Bar-Tech Automation delivered a full BMS installation that introduced new AC control across the theatre, operated via a local touch screen for the in-house team. The OpenBMCS Alarms module monitors the system continuously and sends remote email notifications to both staff and contracted HVAC technicians in the event of a fault, ensuring that issues are acted upon quickly regardless of whether the theatre is in use at the time.
An OpenBMCS Mini Server was installed to provide remote access to graphics, system setpoints, and fault alerts from any internet-connected device. The absence of ongoing licensing fees is a particularly practical benefit for an entertainment venue, where operational budgets are closely managed and predictable fixed costs are preferred over variable software subscriptions.
